Daniel Zovatto is the show’s lead, playing Detective Tiago Vega.  The cast also includes Nathan Lane as Tiago’s partner and mentor, Lewis Michener; Kerry Bishé as Sister Molly, “a charismatic radio evangelist; Natalie Dormer as shapeshifting demon Magda; Johnathan Nieves and Jessica Garza as Tiago’s younger siblings, Mateo and Josefina; Adriana Barraza as their mother, Maria; Rory Kinnear, who starred on the original ‘Penny Dreadful’, as German Dr. Peter Craft.  In recurring roles, ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ includes Amy Madigan as Miss Adelaide Finnister, the mother of Sister Molly; Brent Spiner as Captain Ned Vanderhoff, Vega and Michener’s boss; and Lin Shaye as Dottie Minter, is a “friend and ally” to Michener.

‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ “opens in 1938 Los Angeles; a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.”

Kretschmann

Gladis’ character, Councilman Charlton Townsend, is described as “the ambitious head of the L.A. City Council’s Transportation Committee; a man of killer instincts and ruthless political wiles.”

Izzo has a much more supernatural role, as Santa Muerte, “the Angel of Holy Death and sister of the charismatic demoness, Magda (Dormer).”

Kretschmann will portray Richard Goss, “an aristocratic and mysterious German architect with grand plans for the future of Los Angeles: a manipulative master builder with unsettling connections to City Hall.”

Sherwood’s character, Kurt, is Goss’ chauffeur and bodyguard. “There’s more to Kurt than meets the eye: an unexpected depth and surprising background.”

Peck will play Herman Ackermann, “the charismatic second-in-command at the German-American Bund. His aggressive politics, heated rhetoric, and personal magnetism inevitably create tension within the group and for the Bund’s leader, Peter Craft (Kinnear).”

Ethan Peck to star in Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels

Rodriguez

Finally, Rodriguez will play the eldest brother in the Vega family, Raul, “a righteous union leader and advocate for his people.”

Gladis may be best remembered for playing Paul Kinsey on ‘Mad Men’.  He most recently starred on AMC’s ‘Feed the Beast’, and has made recent appearances on ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Lucifer’.

Izzo costarred on ‘Feed the Beast’ with Gladis.  She appeared in last year’s ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’, and in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.

Kretschmann plays a lot of villains, many of them Nazis, including Baron Strucker in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.  Interestingly, he played the slayer Abraham Van Helsing on NBC’s ‘Dracula’ miniseries, but played Dracula himself in the film ‘Dracula 3D’.

Peck was most recently seen as Spock on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, a role he will reprise in an upcoming ‘Star Trek: Short Treks’.  Before that, he appeared on The CW Seed’s ‘I Ship It’.

Rodriguez is a familiar face to TV viewers, mainly for starring cop shows like ‘CSI: Miami’ and ‘Criminal Minds’.  He has also had recurring roles on ‘Empire’ and ‘Jane the Virgin’.  He was seen (a lot) on the big screen in ‘Magic Mike’ and ‘Magic Mike: XXL’.

Dominic Sherwood is coming off of a three-season run as Jace Wayland on Freeform’s ‘Shadowhunters’.  He was also seen in the film ‘Vampire Academy’.

‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ is the “spiritual descendant” of the Victorian-set ‘Penny Dreadful’.  It will also air on Showtime, and like the first series, was created by John Logan.
