‘Apollo 18’ debuted to a very weak $8.7 million weekend box office in which ‘The Help’ continues to clean up. The low budget horror/sci-fi film is reported to have only cost about $5 million, but being released in 3300+ theaters can be expensive with prints and advertising. The film debuted at #3 just barely beating ‘Shark Night 3D’s $8.6 million box office take.
The apes just can’t be stopped. ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ took in another $7.8 million bringing its’ domestic total to $160 million and its’ worldwide total to $345 million. ‘Rise’ is now poised in the couple weeks to pass 2001’s ‘Planet of the Apes’ reboot that grossed $362 million.
The 4th film in the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise,’Spy Kids: All the Time in the World’, took in an additional $4.6 million adding to its $39.9 million worldwide box office. The latest installment looks to be the franchises smallest box office take and by a huge margin. 2001’s ‘Spy Kids’ grossed $147 million, 2002’s ‘Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams grossed $119 million, and 2003’s ‘Spy Kids 3D: Game Over’ grossed $197 million. Maybe its time for the kids to retire.
‘Conan the Barbarian’ continued its’ journey into oblivion taking in just $1.4 million to bring its worldwide total to $41.1 million.
