Just weeks ago, a rumor emerged that Keanu Reeves had been in talks with Marvel Studios about taking on a role in one of their films, possibly the upcoming ‘Eternals’.  Well, that wasn’t just a rumor!  Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted that not only was Reeves in talks recently, but he and the studio have been in discussions for YEARS about his possibly joining the Cinematic Universe, but that it was just a matter of finding the right role for the popular actor.

Further, Feige cited Jake Gyllenhaal as an example of a hot performer that Marvel wanted, but needed to find the right project for him.  That turned out to be the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, in which Gyllenhaal plays Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Feige said:

“We talk to him for almost every film we make.  We talk to Keanu Reeves about. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

Reeves has had a successful career for decades, but the rate of his success often depends on the films he makes.  This year, he had the lowest-grossing movie of his career, the science fiction drama ‘Replicas’, but followed that up with another monster success in the shoot-’em-up ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’, which, ironically, was the film that knocked ‘Avengers: Endgame’ from the #1 spot.

‘Eternals’ might end up being a good fit for Reeves, if only because of the internet conspiracy theory that Reeves actually is an immortal being.  Another popular Reeves internet campaign is the push for him to assume the role of Wolverine once Marvel Studios decides what it wants to do with the ‘X-Men’.

Alas, ComicBook.com also asked Feige about some other actors that have been rumored to be in the running for Marvel roles, Millie Bobby Brown and Donnie Yen, to which Feige replied that nothing was currently in the works for either, although Feige called them “good actors.”  I had not heard anything about Brown being in a Marvel project, but Yen was recently rumored to be under consideration for a role in ‘Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu’.
