Spider-Man: Far From Home Mysterio

SPOILER ALERT: This contains information that might be considered SPOILERS for ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, so proceed with caution.

In the ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ trailers, up ’til now, Jake Gyllenhaal’s new character, Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio has been presented as a new hero.  Nick Fury vouches for him and Peter even reveals his secret identity to him!  But is it possible that Beck isn’t as heroic as he seems?

That is what two new ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ billboards hint at.  The artist that illustrated them, Ryan Meinerding, took photos and posted them on Instagram.  The two signs are placed across the street from one another and in one, Spider-Man is shown swinging off to the left, possibly dodging an energy blast from Mysterio, who is placed on the other side of the street.  Or, it’s possible that they are both fighting an unseen opponent “off-panel.”

Check out the new billboards below:

At least in the trailers, Mysterio is shown teaming up with Peter to battle the “Elementals,” Hydroman and Molten Man, who Beck says destroyed his homeworld, a parallel universe that was possibly created by the Avengers mucking around with time in ‘Endgame’.  The barrier separating the two realities was apparently breached by one of the numerous reality warping finger snaps– either Thanos’, Hulk’s, or Stark’s.  Fury doesn’t specify.

Of course, if you’re familiar with the comics or various animated series, you already know Mysterio is a classic Spider-Man villain, so should he betray Peter and Fury, that should come as no surprise.

What do you think?  Is the cinematic version of Mysterio a true hero?  Or is Peter in for a knife in the back?

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ swings into theaters on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.
