One of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood, Michael Rooker, has just landed another job.  He has been cast in a villain role in Amazon’s ‘Dark Tower’ series adaptation of Stephen King’s sprawling novels.  Though his role is unknown, it is speculated that he will be playing Eldred Jonas, a failed gunslinger.  He will star opposite Sam Strike (‘Nightflyers’) and Jasper Pääkkönen (‘BlacKkKlansman’), with Strike playing gunslinger Roland Deschain, and Pääkkönen as Marten Broadcloak, the Man in Black, (also known as Walter Padick) the person that Deschain has vowed to kill.

Amazon’s series is expected to be a more in-depth and faithful adaptation of the books, than the failed 2017 movie, which starred Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black.  The series is said to take place many years earlier and will depict Roland Deschain’s origin– “how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.”

The cast also includes Jerome Flynn as Steven Deschain, Ana Padrão as Cordelia Delgado, Abraham Popoola as McCreedy, Joana Ribeiro as Susan Delgado, and Ivan Kaye in an undisclosed role.

‘The Dark Tower’ series was developed by ‘The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara, the first 13-episode season is currently in production in Croatia.  The series is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.

Nowadays, Rooker is best known for playing Merle Dixon on ‘The Walking Dead’, and Yondu in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies.  Just this year, he has been seen in historical drama ‘Bolden’, in the third season of HBO’s ‘True Detective’, and in the recent horror movie ‘Brightburn’.  He has roles in the upcoming ‘Fantasy Island’ (from Blumhouse/Universal) and ‘Monster Problems’.

How is the cast of ‘The Dark Tower’ shaping up in your opinion?
