the dark tower

With ‘The Dark Tower’ failing to entice fans and casual moviegoers at the box office, you would think that the original TV series which was also ordered would have been canceled, but you’d be wrong. We’ve learned that the show is still in development over at Amazon Studios though I suspect that the current iteration will be vastly different than what was initially planned.

While the idea of three films with multiple tie-in seasons that would further explore the novels was an enticing one, I do believe that telling the story as an ongoing series would fit better with the narrative that Stephen King had crafted.

The revelation that a series was still in the works came from Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke who was asked about the future of both ‘The Wheel of Time’ and ‘Dark Tower’:

“Those are scripts that I haven’t gotten yet. I’ll be seeing those, that material, in the coming weeks. None of those things are dead. They’re very much alive.”

With how much is being dumped into ‘Lord of the Rings,’ it is an easy guess as to why the studio might not also be interested in developing ‘The Wheel of Time,’ but the ‘Dark Tower’ still being alive is interesting. The series could easily tell the same story or the full set of novels without it being out of context and going through the books instead of just a couple as flashbacks if done right.

Previously, King spoke about the series and stated that “We’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see.”

That is the only way I could see this project going forward and with audience lack of interest being due to poor marketing and reviews, it still is a story which is waiting to be told.

Would you want Amazon Studios to do ‘The Dark Tower’ justice and give us a proper ongoing series? Do you feel that Stephen King’s work should have been adapted this way instead of movies to begin with? Share your thoughts below!
