Michael Rooker has signed on to star opposite Dylan O’Brien in ‘Monster Problems’, a potential franchise starter to be directed by Michael Matthews, and produced by Shawn Levy producing at 21 Laps.  ‘Monster Problems’ is described as a “coming-of-age story” and “a post-apocalyptic road movie with heart,” in which Rooker plays Clyde, an expert hunter who takes O’Brien’s Joel Dawson under his wing, and teaches him “how to survive the Monster Apocalypse,” after the world is overrun with creatures.  The script was written by Brian Duffield & Matthew Robinson.

It isn’t clear what kind of monsters these are.  In fact, at this point, this information is literally all that is known about this movie.

As for Rooker, he can currently be seen on HBO’s ‘True Detective’ Season 3, with Mahershala Ali.  He was also recently seen on ‘SEAL Team’ and of course he played Merle Dixon on ‘The Walking Dead’.  He is also known for playing blue alien Yondu in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies and he appeared in 2016’s ‘The Belko Experiment’.  He just wrapped up filming Blumhouse’s ‘Fantasy Island’ big screen adaptation.  He is attached to star in John McNaughton’s adaptation of the Flannery O’Connor novel ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’.

O’Brien provided the voice for the titular Autobot in ‘Bumblebee’.  Last year, he starred in ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’, the last movie in that series, based on the YA novels by James Dashner.  Previous films include ‘American Assassin’, ‘Deepwater Horizon ‘, and ‘The Internship’.  He appeared on Jordan Peele’s sci-fi anthology series ‘Weird City’ on Youtube Premium.  And of course, he spent six seasons as sidekick Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’.

This marks only the second film for Michael Matthews.  His previous film, ‘Five Fingers for Marseilles’, a South African-based western, won numerous African Movie Academy Awards including Best Film, Best Film in an African Language, and Best First Feature Film by a Director.
