Fred Savage

Fred Savage is returning to network TV on FOX’s ‘What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage’, a talk show designed to keep fans up-to-date on the latest news about the science fiction series ‘The Flare’.  Oh, and by the way, ‘The Flare’ doesn’t exist.

Designed as a parody of ‘Talking Dead’, ‘Hacking Robot’, ‘After Trek’, ‘Beyond Stranger Things’, etc., ‘What Just Happened??!’ was created by Savage, Dave Jeser and Matt Silverstein.

Here is the description of the fictitious series ‘The Flare’:

“THE FLARE is based on fictional author TJ Whitford’s sci-fi book series, “The Moon is the Sun at Night,” which has been a favorite of Savage’s since childhood. The book revolves around a solar event and its effects on Earth – specifically, the small, blue-collar town of Milford, IL – and slowly unfolds into a post-apocalyptic battle for human survival.

The after-show will feature multiple segments, including authentic sit-down celebrity interviews, set visits to THE FLARE and interviews with the “cast,” as well as discussions with fans and more.”

It sounds as though ‘What Just Happened??!’ will actually be a fictionalized version of the on-air programs, not a behind-the-scenes spoof.

Jeser and Silverstein have been producing partners for years and have collaborated on projects such as ‘Life in Pieces’, ‘Grandfathered’, ‘Axe Cop’, and ‘The Cleveland Show’.  But perhaps more valuable, Silverman got his start as an associate producer for HBO’s ‘The Chris Rock Show’, and served as a producer of ‘The Talk’.  The pair first worked together on Comedy Central’s ‘The Man Show’, which helped launch the careers of Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel.  Their experience working on actual talk shows, as well as live-action and animated comedies, seems to make them a perfect fit for this hybrid of the two.

Savage may be best-known as a child actor, from ‘The Wonder Years’ and ‘The Princess Bride’, but more recently, he starred on Netflix’s ‘Friends from College’ and appeared in ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ as himself.

‘What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage’ premieres on FOX on Sunday, June 30.
