Boyz II Batmen: FOX Has Released Official Photos Of David Mazouz As Batman From The 'Gotham' Finale

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet watched the series finale of ‘Gotham’, “The Beginning,” this article contains MILD SPOILERS, so you may want to turn back or proceed with caution.

*Sniff Sniff*  They grow up so quickly, don’t they?  David Mazouz was a precocious 13-year-old when he first appeared as Bruce Wayne in Season 1 of FOX’s prequel series ‘Gotham’.  Now, five years later, he’s a full grown man, and not just any man– Batman!

Well, he was at any rate.  Mazouz barely appeared in-person in the show’s final episode, “The Beginning” but when he did, he gifted loyal fans with something they had been waiting five seasons to see– Bruce Wayne’s emergence as Batman.  The show jumped forward ten years, during which Bruce had left Gotham to travel the world, gaining the training and expertise needed to be the ultimate crime fighter.  Upon returning, the underworld suddenly found itself being confronted and taken down by a mysterious wraith who lurked in the shadows, stepping out only to throw around a Batarang or two.

It wasn’t until the end of the episode that viewers, and the other characters like Gordon, got a good look at the new Batman.  And now you can too.  FOX has released a couple of images from “The Beginning” to give you a better look at Mazouz in costume.  Check them out:

Because of the ten-year time jump, Camren Bicondova did not appear as Selina Kyle, who had become Catwoman by this point.  Instead, she was replaced by an older lookalike, Lili Simmons.  Basically cutting out Bruce Wayne, and keeping Batman in the shadows, allowed Mazouz to inhabit his role in the episode.  Mazouz is now 18, but this Bruce would need to be 28, and he just wouldn’t be able to make that work without heavy makeup or CGI.  Plus, he’s still kind of thin and wiry, whereas Bruce/Batman would have bulked out to Affleck proportions by this point.  So basically, ‘Gotham’ handled his send-off exactly as they should have.

How do you think of how ‘Gotham’ finally depicted Bruce’s metamorphosis into Batman?
