One of the areas where Fox’s ‘Gotham‘ felt grounded when the series first came out was the relationship between Sean Pertwee‘s Alfred Pennyworth and David Mazouz‘s Bruce Wayne. The two didn’t always see eye-to-eye, but you could feel that the friendship there was that of an already established family bond and not just an employer and employee relationship. It did come up in a few plot points before we saw the young Master Wayne come into his own but the acting of these two was top notch.
Having just spent over five years working so closely together, the two also struck up a friendship off screen and Mazouz has taken to social media to post a heartfelt goodbye to the man who played his friend and father figure on the series:
“Today marks the very last time I will work with this man on Gotham. It’s hard for me to know what to say. Sometimes I feel like Sean knows me better than I know myself. He always knows what I’m thinking and feeling, always making sure I’m ok, which I think is a testament to how close our relationship has been over the last third of my life. And over those five years, I’ve learned what it means to be a gentleman, professional, and unabashedly talented from this man. I am sad my days with him (on Gotham) have come to an end but I am eternally grateful for my experience with him and happy for the people who will be recipients of his light next. Thanks, Sean.”
With such a well-written statement it is hard to remember that the young actor is only 17-years old. Hopefully, this is a talent that we’ll see shine for years to come and won’t be one that falls into the trap of many who are thrown into the spotlight at a young age.
Fox’s ‘Gotham’ has been a crazy ride giving us a fun re-imaging of the ‘Batman’ universe and fans are eager to see how it will all play out. Of course, many fans are probably even more eager to finally see Mazouz don the official cape and cowl.
