As Dove Cameron’s Mal declares in the newest trailer for ‘Descendants 3’, “If I don’t get that Ember, it’s game over.” It may not be game over, but this third installment in the hit Disney Channel Original Movie series is likely to be the last. As such, expect this to be the splashiest entry yet. According to director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, speaking to Entertainment Weekly:
“Descendants 3 will be the biggest in scope of all the previous movies. Everything has been scaled to deliver an epic story. The characters, the sets, the costumes, the dance numbers are all bigger, better and the baddest!”
Here is the film’s synopsis:
“Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay return to the Isle of the Lost to recruit a new batch of villainous offspring to join them at Auradon Prep. When a barrier breach jeopardizes the safety of Auradon during their departure off the Isle, Mal resolves to permanently close the barrier, fearing that nemeses Uma and Hades will wreak vengeance on the kingdom. Despite her decision, an unfathomable dark force threatens the people of Auradon, and it’s up to Mal and the VKs to save everyone in their most epic battle yet.”
Cameron returns, along with Sofia Carson (Evie), Cameron Boyce (Carlos), and Booboo Stewart (Jay), as the children of classic Disney villains Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar, who have turned over a new leaf after attending Aurodon Prep with the offspring of the Disney heroes. Also returning are Mitchell Hope (Ben, son of Beauty & the Beast), China Anne McClain (Uma, daughter of Ursula), Anna Cathcart (Dizzy, daughter of Druzzila), Brenna D’Amico (Jane, daughter of Fairy Godmother), Thomas Doherty (Harry, son of Captain Hook), Jedidiah Goodacre (Chad, son of Prince Charming), Sarah Jeffery (Audrey, daughter of Aurora/Sleeping Beauty), and Dylan Playfair (Gil, son of Gaston).

The new film introduces a new menace, Hades (from ‘Hercules’) who turns out to be Mal’s father, played by Cheyenne Jackson, and Celia, the daughter of ‘The Princess and the Frog’s Dr. Facilier, played by Jadah Marie. Both new villains can be spotted working their magic in the new trailer, which you can watch below:
The premiere date still hasn’t been determined, but ‘Descendants 3’ will arrive on Disney Channel this summer.
