Brec Bassinger Stargirl

DC Universe has gone all-out.  Not only did they offered the first episodes of their original series ‘Titans’, ‘Doom Patrol’, and ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ free for two weeks, then its entire catalog for 24 hours, also for free, now the service has unleashed a slew of new information, in hopes of enticing DC fans to sign up for this exclusive streaming service.  The latest bit of publicity is the first look at Brec Bassinger in the role of Courtney Whitmore, the titular hero from the upcoming live-action series ‘Stargirl’.

‘Stargirl’ follows the adventures of high school student Courtney Whitmore who adopts a superheroic identity after finding the gear belonging to her new step-father, who used to serve as a sidekick to the hero Starman.  Along the way, Courtney runs afoul of villains of the past, while inspiring others to take on the heroic tradition of the Justice Society.

The cast also includes Luke Wilson as Courtney’s step-father Pat Dugan, who inspires Courtney to take on a superheroic identity, while Joel McHale will play Pat’s former mentor Starman/Sylvester Pemberton.  Amy Smart portrays Courtney’s mother, Barbara, while Trae Romano plays Pat’s son, Mike.  The cast also includes Meg Delacy as Shiv/Cindy Burman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman/Rex Tyler, Neil Hopkins as Sportsmaster/Lawrence Crock, Nelson Lee as The Dragon King, Joy Osmanski as The Tigress/Paula Crock, Brian Stapf as Wildcat/Ted Grant, and Henry Thomas as Doctor Mid-Nite/Charles McNider.  Christopher James Baker, Yvette Monreal, Cameron Gellman, Neil Jackson, Hunter Sansone, Jake Austin Walker, and  Anjelika Washington have been cast in undisclosed roles.

While Stargirl is obviously the focus of the photo, bits of S.T.R.I.P.E. can also be glimpsed.  After Courtney launches her superheroic career, Pat builds a huge suit of armor that he uses to keep tabs on her.

‘Stargirl’ will premier on DC Universe in early 2020.
