Amy Smart

It looks as though the core cast of ‘Stargirl’ has been finalized, with Amy Smart, Neil Jackson, Cameron Gellman, Trae Romano, and Hunter Sansone.  They join a cast that already includes Brec Bassinger as the titular hero, also known as Courtney Whitmore, with Luke Wilson as her step-father Pat Dugan, who inspires Courtney to take on a superheroic identity, while Joel McHale will play Pat’s former mentor Starman/Sylvester Pemberton.  The cast also includes Meg Delacy as Shiv/Cindy Burman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman/Rex Tyler, Neil Hopkins as Sportsmaster/Lawrence Crock, Nelson Lee as The Dragon King, Joy Osmanski as The Tigress/Paula Crock, Brian Stapf as Wildcat/Ted Grant, and Henry Thomas as Doctor Mid-Nite/Charles McNider.  Christopher James Baker, Yvette Monreal, Jake Austin Walker, and  Anjelika Washington have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Smart will play Courtney’s mother and Pat’s new bride.  She will be re-entering the workforce for the first time in years and will struggle to balance those responsibilities with raising a teenage daughter and a new marriage.  It doesn’t help that Courtney will secretly be a superhero.

Pat comes with his own offspring baggage, a young son Mike, portrayed by Trae Romano.  Mike comes across as overly charming but is actually a brat behind his father’s back.

Neil Jackson

Neil Jackson’s role has not been revealed, nor have those for Gellman and Sansone.

Smart has had a lengthy career, since breaking out in 1999’s ‘Varsity Blues’.  She has gone on to star in movies like ‘The Battle of Shaker Heights’, ‘The Butterfly Effect’, ‘Starsky & Hutch’, ‘Crank’, and ‘Crank: High Voltage’, and TV shows including ‘Felicity’, ‘Scrubs’, ‘Shameless’, ‘Justified’, and most recently ‘MacGyver’.

Jackson starred on ‘Blade: The Series’, ‘Flashforward’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’, and Amazon Prime’s ‘Absentia’.  He was most recently seen in an episode of ‘Westworld’ and in Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Welcome to Marwen’.

Gellman recently starred on the Paramount Network’s TV version of ‘Heathers’, and previously on ‘Let the Right One In’.  He has also made appearances on ‘The Thundermans’, ‘The Fosters’, and ‘The Middle’.

At 14, Romano doesn’t have the longest resumé, but he has appeared in the miniseries ‘555’ and ‘Equilibrium’.

Sansone likewise doesn’t have many credits, but he appeared in ‘Hurricane 360’ and ‘S is for Revenge’.

‘Stargirl’ is scheduled to premiere on DC Universe on August 9, 2019.
