Are You Afraid Of The Dark

Gather around the campfire, kids! ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ is back, in movie form, to scare the wits out of us! Coming this October, the movie hopes to deliver Nickelodeon’s classic horror anthology series to a younger generation. If that’s not enough, ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ is also getting a revamped miniseries before the film.

The original Nickelodeon series featured a group of kids who called themselves The Midnight Society. The Midnight Society would start every episode by gathering around a campfire in the woods and would then take turns telling a story designed to scare the rest of the group. While some of the stories were more silly than scary, several were truly terrifying, especially for those 90s kids among us. Remember the Doll Maker? Horrifying.

Nickelodeon released a statement about the upcoming film and miniseries, saying:

The beloved anthology series will return this October as a brand-new miniseries and follow new members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire in the woods to share scary stories. The miniseries will coincide with the upcoming ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ theatrical movie from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Players’ and Nickelodeon Movies, in theaters October 2019.

The new ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ film was directed by D.J. Caruso and featured a script written by Gary Dauberman and BenDavid Grabinski. Speaking about the storyline for the film, Dauberman said:

“It is a completely original story I came up with, but it still has the Midnight Society and it still has the campfire. It’s still a story being told.”

He continued, saying:

“I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things and that’s something I really wanted to do with ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark.’ I think it is scary and I think kids will be scared watching it at times, and also they’ll laugh at times. I think it’s got a great message. I think it’s got a great heart to it but it is still scary. I think that’s great. I think it’s going to open it up to a wider audience.”

Get your blankets and flashlights ready, something tells me you’re going to need them! ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ the miniseries will air this fall, followed by the film in October. Check back for more news as it becomes available!
