Locke & Key Sherri Saum Griffin Gluck Steven Williams

Netflix’s upcoming ‘Locke & Key’ has added Sherri Saum and Griffin Gluck as regular cast members, as well as Steven Williams in a recurring capacity.  The series, adapted from the IDW comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, follows the exploits of Nina Locke and her three children who move into her deceased husband’s ancestral home after his murder.  Inside the mysterious manor, the kids discover a set of magical keys which gives them supernatural abilities.  They also make them the target of a demonic force.

Carlton Cuse (‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’) and Meredith Averill (‘The Haunting of Hill House’) will executive produce and serve as co-showrunners.  Comic book writer Hill will also executive produce.  ‘Locke & Key’ was originally developed for Hulu, but when that pilot was passed over, Netflix picked it up straight-to-series.  The first season will consist of 10 episodes.

Of the Locke family, so far only the three children have been cast, with Connor Jessup (‘American Crime’) playing eldest son Tyler, Emilia Jones (‘Patrick’) as middle child Kinsey, and Jackson Robert Scott (‘It’) as youngest child Bode.  In addition, Asha Bromfield (‘Riverdale’) has been cast in the dual role as Zadie and Zoe Wells, and Kolton Stewart (‘Some Assembly Required’) will play Brinker Martin.

On ‘Locke & Key’, Saum, who is coming off of five seasons as Lena Adams-Foster on Freeform’s ‘The Fosters’, will portray Ellie Whedon, a teacher at Matheson Academy, who has a past connection to the Locke family home.  Among Shaum’s other credits are ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Rescue Me’.

Gluck appeared in both seasons of Netflix’s ‘American Vandal’ and on ‘Locke & Key’, he will play Gabe, a boarding student at Matheson Academy who befriends Kinsey Locke.  Gluck is presently attending the Sundance Film Festival, where his next project, ‘Big Time Adolescence’ is screening.

Williams previously appeared in ‘It’ alongside Jackson Robert Scott.  He will be seen in Netflix’s upcoming original film ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Collette, John Malkovich, and Rene Russo.  He also has a role in Warner Brothers’ DC Comics film ‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’.  On ‘Locke & Key’, he will portray Joe Ridgeway, another teacher at Matheson Academy, who befriends the Locke family.  Danny Glover played this role in the original Hulu pilot.

Since the casting process is still underway, ‘Locke & Key’ clearly hasn’t begun production yet, so there is no telling when it will be available to binge, but check back for news as it emerges.
