We can complain all we want about how short the seventh season of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ was but what we can’t complain about is the quality of the visuals. A new featurette has been released which focuses on how the visual effects were created for the series with a spotlight on the undead Wight army! From chasing down our heroes who went North of the wall, to what happened at the end of that episode, to the finale – the White Walkers have had a strong influence on this shortened season and they made their presence known in style.
A question some might have is how did this undead army blend so well into the scenes. Visual effects company El Ranchito has shown exactly how they made the magic happen with this behind-the-scenes featurette. Starting from raw footage, they show what they did to really bring it all together from major additions like dragons to minor details that just make the visuals pop.

Winter is coming and it is a mixture of practical effects and CGI wizardry. With the army about to invade all of Westeros, we should be seeing even more of this in the great war during the coming season. I’m just hoping that the Stark sisters are able to both make it out of this mess alive as they’ll be on the front lines right as everything kicks off.
Did the raw footage prior to any CGI being done match up to your expectations for ‘Game of Thrones’ or were you surprised how much ended up being added in post production? Share your thoughts below!
