Rumor has it that Bill Murray will return for a cameo in ‘Zombieland 2’ and he won’t be alone. He’s bringing is ‘Ghostbusters’ co-star Dan Aykroyd with him.
‘Zombieland’ was an under-the-radar hit in 2009 and has retained a strong cult following, but an attempt to turn it into a TV series on Amazon Prime Video in 2013 failed. But original director, Ruben Fleischer, writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and stars Woody Harrelson (“Tallahassee”), Emma Stone (“Witchita”), Jesse Eisenberg (“Columbus”), and Abigail Breslin (“Little Rock”) will come together in January to film a much-anticipated sequel.
Bill Murray appeared in the first film as himself, a survivor of the zombie apocalypse who disguises himself as a zombie so that he can move around unharmed. However after a prank goes wrong, Murray is killed by Eisenberg’s character, Columbus. Will he return as a zombie in the new movie?
Reportedly ‘Zombieland 2’ will take place years later, after most of the zombies have died out, only to be replaced by “super zombies.” Is it possible that Murray will be one of these creatures? And how does Aykroyd enter the equation? We’ll probably have to wait until the film’s release to find out.
In addition to Murray and Aykroyd, Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia have also signed on to appear. Jogia’s character’s name is Berekley, but Deutch’s hasn’t been revealed.
Director Fleischer is coming off another surprise hit, Sony’s ‘Venom’. Production on ‘Zombieland 2’ is expected to begin in January, as the film is already locked into a release date– October 11, 2019– in honor of the ten-year anniversary of the release of the first ‘Zombieland’. That’s a tight schedule, but hopefully these old pros can pull it off.
Are you excited that, at long last, a sequel to ‘Zombieland’ is finally on its way? Do you have enough Twinkies to get you through until its release in October?
