We already were pretty sure that ‘Zombieland 2’ was going to be bringing this franchise back from the dead and now we have official confirmation that it is happening. Not only that, but it looks like stars Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin have all signed on the dotted line to reprise their roles. Not only is the cast returning but director Ruben Fleischer will be tackling this sophomore outing as well as the original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Gavin Polone will also return to produce.
The movie will be going into production in January of 2019 and set to be released in October to give us a sweet little 10-year reunion from this smash hit from 2009.
Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch has shared that:
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
With audiences, critics, and box office returns of $102.3 million on a $24 million budget I think we can all agree on that the only surprising thing about this announcement is that it has taken this long to happen.
