Expect A Total Reboot In James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

James Gunn might be back in the director’s chair for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ but before he has time to do that, he’ll need to finish up his commitment to deliver ‘The Suicide Squad‘. While speculation of a new team has been ongoing, it sounds like the movie’s producer has shot down any idea that this will be a sequel and instead is set to be a “total reboot” of the franchise.

You can’t help but wonder how that will play out when at least Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn still running around in multiple films. We do know that Will Smith’s Deadshot is being recast with Idris Elba now taking on the role and the rest of the villains involved being a different lineup.

The reboot reveal was announced when producer Peter Safran was asked “how excited should people be for Suicide Squad 2”:

“First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script, and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot, and I know that we will deliver a lot.”

While I’m loving the idea that it will clearly be a James Gunn movie which should have audiences excited, you can’t help but wonder what will cause these villains to gather together if it isn’t the machinations of Amanda Waller. Here’s hoping that it will still end up being a soft reboot with Viola Davis being able to return to play the part.

Are you excited for ‘The Suicide Squad’ being created under James Gunn’s vision? Do you think this will end up as a soft reboot or a full reboot? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
