Outside of ‘Swamp Thing‘ himself, it hasn’t been evident if there would be any major creatures popping up in the upcoming DC Universe series but producer James Wan has hinted some would make an appearance. He wouldn’t commit as to which creatures will show up or how they’ll look, but Wan will be directly involved in that process as “that’s part of the appeal” for being involved with the series. I’m hoping that we’ll get some darker creatures out there as he did with some of the underwater creatures from ‘Aquaman.’
As to putting the series together, Wan shares that “I have an amazing team of showrunners and writers on this. Just like I was with Aquaman, we’re very respectful to the source material with Swamp Thing as well.” We’ve already been informed that it will be one of Alan Moore’s iconic stories which is being used as the source material:
“We’re a big fan of Alan Moore’s take on it so picking a particular story and using that as the foundation to kick it off. If we’re lucky, we can have many other stories to tell.”
Stacking up to ‘Aquaman’ it appears that ‘Swamp Thing’ is partially a different beast for the creator because of the medium. “It’s different. It’s for DC streaming, and it’s different. It’s for television. It’s just a different medium.”

The drama follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
