The talks are over and Kevin Durand (‘Lost’,’The Strain’) has officially signed on the dotted line to join the cast of DC Universe’s ‘Swamp Thing‘. This isn’t the first time he will have played a supervillain. In ‘X-Men: Origins: Wolverine‘ he played Fred Dukes who you probably know as The Blob. In ‘Swamp Thing,’ he’ll be playing the part of Jason Woodrue and has a long, sordid history with not only Swamp Thing but the rest of the DC Universe as well. Woodrue is a brilliant, if off-putting, scientist in the public eye but also ends up as the super-villain Floronic Man.

On ‘Swamp Thing’ Woodrue will appear in his human form, at least in the beginning. He will be a recurring character and is described as a “slick and cunning scientist” determined to gain control of The Green, the source of all plant life in the DC Universe.

This will be the second live-action take on the villain as he briefly was played by John Glover in the 1997 release of ‘Batman and Robin’ which we’ve all tried to forget.

Are you looking forward to the casting of ‘Swamp Thing’ for DC Universe to almost be complete? Do you feel that Kevin Durand will be able to pull off a believable Jason Woodrue? Will he evolve into Floronic Man in the first season of the series if he isn’t already the villain? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

The drama follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns
to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly
swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec
Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces
descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for
their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets,
both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be
dead after all.
