Zoey Deutch has joined the cast of Sony’s ‘Zombieland 2’ in an undisclosed role. She was recently seen in the Netflix romantic comedy ‘Set It Up’ with Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu and in last year’s buzz-y hit ‘The Disaster Artist’. She will also be seen in the upcoming Netflix series, ‘The Politician’ created by Ryan Murphy and co-starring Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Ruben Fleischer, who directed the first ‘Zombieland’, will return for the sequel. Fleischer’s most recent movie, ‘Venom’ turned out to be a surprise smash at the box office. The screenplay will be written by the same team as the first, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who both also contributed to the two ‘Deadpool’ movies. Both will also serve as executive producers. Also returning are the stars of the original, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin, as Wichita, Tallahassee, Columbus, and Little Rock, respectively. Gavin Polone will produce.
Through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the Zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
‘Zombieland 2’ will go into production on January 28, in order to be released on October 11, 2019, the ten-year anniversary of the release of the first film. The first picture took in $75 million at the box office on a $25 million budget and has only grown in popularity as new viewers discover this horror-comedy thanks to frequent airing on TV.
In 2013, Amazon made a pilot for a ‘Zombieland’ TV series, but it appears that it wasn’t a hit with viewers, as the streaming service did not pick it up as an ongoing series.
