chilling adventures of sabrina

Netflix has released a dark new trailer for ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ which will become available on October 26.  The series follows teenager Sabrina Spellman as she turns 16 and must decide whether she will embrace her nature as a witch or if she will live in peace as a human.  Considering that there’d be no show if she took the later option, it’s pretty clear what path she will take.

While ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ comes from the same creators as ‘Riverdale’, it looks decidedly creepier, with elements of ‘American Horror Story’ thrown in.  One reveal from the trailer is that the Spellman family owns the local mortuary.  In the series, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) lives with her two aunts, Hilda and Zelda (Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto, respectively) and her necromancer cousin Ambrose (Chance Perdomo).  Also glimpsed in the new clip are Sabrina’s witchy peers Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle), Prudence (Tati Gabrielle), Dorcas (Abigail F. Cowen) and Agatha (Adeline Rudolph).

The cast of ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ also includes Ross Lynch as Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey Kinkle, Jaz Sinclair and Lachlan Watson as human friends Rosalind Walker and Susie Putnam, Bronson Pinchot as high school principal George Hawthorne and Michelle Gomez as teacher Mary Wardell, who becomes embroiled in this dark supernatural side of Greendale.

The new series is said to draw inspiration from classic horror movies like ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist’.  And it arrives just in time to binge for Halloween.  The first season consists of ten episodes and Netflix pre-ordered a second, which went into production after the first wrapped, so expect another batch of episodes next year around the same time.
