Lucy Davis

‘Wonder Woman’‘s sidekick Etta Candy, a.k.a. Lucy Davis, has signed on to Netflix’s ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’.  Though she has worked extensively in film and television, to many, Davis will always be best known for her role as Dawn in the original version of ‘The Office’.  (The character that would serve as the basis for Jenna Fischer’s Pam in the U.S. adaptation.) In addition to these roles, Davis may also be known to U.S. audiences for playing Dianne in ‘Shaun of the Dead’.

The news of her casting comes very shortly after the announcement that fellow British TV stars Michelle Gomez, best known for playing Missy on ‘Doctor Who’ and up-and-c0mer Chance Perdomo have also joined ‘Sabrina’. Gomez will portray Sabrina’s favorite teacher at Baxter High, Mary Wardell, who becomes possessed by a force of evil, turning her into the villainous Madam Satan.  Perdomo will portray Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose Spellman and warlock and necromancer.  Coincidentally, Davis’ ‘Office’ romantic lead, Martin Freeman is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Everett K. Ross in the new release ‘Black Panther’.

On ‘Sabrina’, Davis will portray Sabrina’s aunt Hilda, the role inhabited by Caroline Rhea on ABC’s sitcom ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ from 1998-2003.

Here is the casting description for the character for ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’:

[HILDA SPELLMAN] Female, late 30s to early 40s, All Ethnicities. Hilda is the kinder
of the Spellman sisters who are raising Sabrina, though her nurturing nature belies a
more ruthless side. She is a healer, a potion-maker, sweet-as-pie until you cross her or
anyone she loves. Operating the local funeral home, the sisters hide their witchery from
the world while teaching Sabrina spells and incantations at home…ASP SERIES REGULAR

Netflix ordered a darker spin on the classic Archie Comics characters after The CW’s ‘Riverdale’ performed so well for the streaming service over the summer.  (The CW’s fall premiere more than doubled that of the first season.)  Netflix instantly ordered two ten-episode seasons of ‘Sabrina’.  The new take is said to draw inspiration from horror classics like ‘The Exorcist’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’.

Davis, Gomez and Perdomo join Kiernan Shipka who portrays the title character and Jaz Sinclair who plays her best friend Rosalind Walker.  No release date has been announced.
