Doctor Who

New ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Chris Chibnall has dropped a piece of knowledge that may delight some Whovians! The upcoming season of ‘Doctor Who’ will introduce new monsters and villains. This means the bane of the Doctor’s existence, The Daleks, may finally have some much needed time off to…RECUPERATE! Nailed it.

Appearing at a press event at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Chibnall explained:

“It’s pretty much all new stories, all new monsters, all new villains. I think we’re two weeks from finishing filming… and we haven’t come across any old villains yet.”

Though this could be a clever misdirect to avoid any spoilers, sweetie, it would be nice to see some new monsters take on Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor. We do know for sure that the new series will not be told in multi-part stories. In a recent interview, Chibnall spoke on the format of the new episodes, saying:

“It’s 10 standalone episodes, there’s no two-parters or anything like that. What we want is for people to feel like we’ve got the range and variety of ‘Doctor Who’ this year. So if you’ve never seen it before, you’re gonna fall in love with it, and if you have seen it, you’re gonna get those things that you love about the show across the 10 episodes.”

SDCC also gave us our first look at what will undoubtedly be the new era of ‘Doctor Who.’ An exclusive clip features Whittaker’s Doctor addressing the new version of herself, as well as her new companions. The Doctor says:

“All of this is new to me. New faces. New worlds. New times. So, if I asked — really, really nicely — would you be my new best friends?”

The answer is a resounding, obvi! The new series of ‘Doctor Who’ returns to BBC America this October. Check out the trailer below!
