Judge Dredd Mega City One

Last month we found out that ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One‘ was going to be headed to the small screen which sounds fantastic but sadly it is still pretty far out from being released. In a recent interview, Rebellion Developments’ CEO Jason Kingsley was talking about the series and while there wasn’t much news he did share when we can expect it and a bit about a very vague overview of the type of story that they’ll be telling.

The bad news first, we’re at least two years out from seeing the show debut.

“My best guess if that it’s at least two years away. But we’re so early in the process that things could happen a bit faster, or much more slowly.”

Part of this delay is likely to get the story right while some if it could even be working around Karl Urban‘s schedule if they do, in fact, get him to star in the series. I wouldn’t hold my breath on this film star making the jump to the small screen for an undetermined period of time, but if the right network is involved, it could happen. This is a show that if it were on HBO, Netflix, or another premium channel might have the budget and reach that could tempt Urban into signing on.

As to what kind of story that they hope to tell we’ve got a couple of details there as well though they are still vague as Kingsley states:

“Dark fantasy elements are one area that would be great to explore. The show will combine the macabre with the insane and the light-hearted. It’s a big place, after all, with 400 million stories to tell.”

If they want for a weekly set of stories instead of an ongoing story arc they wouldn’t even need Dredd to be the key Judge that is shown in every episode, though I’m sure that is what fans are hoping for.

What are your thoughts on ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One’ being two years out? Are you happy that they’re taking their time with the series to do it right? Do you think we’ll see Urban back as Dredd? Share your thoughts below!
