blade runner 2049

Even though we will not be able to see ‘Blade Runner 2049‘ until this fall, it is clearly one of the more highly anticipated movies of the year, and for good reason. The original ‘Blade Runner’ was a game changer for how people imagined the future in sci-fi, and with Ridley Scott working with Denis Villeneuve (‘Prisoners,’ ‘Sicario,’ ‘Arrival’) on the sequel which takes place 30 years after the original and with bringing back Harrison Ford, there is a lot to be excited about. Villeneuve is on a hot streak and seems like the perfect fit to replace Scott in the director’s chair because of his ability to handle sci-fi material in an engaging and thought-provoking way. With Scott himself still attached, there is a lot of talent behind this film.

Recently, the filmmakers have released a new featurette through EW showing off some footage from the new movie, giving us a taste of what the look and feel of the movie are going to be. It feels very much in line with the original, just with a touch more of the “future” added. The footage also has the director, Scott, Ford, the cinematographer and stars Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto all discussing their excitement for the film and why they think it is going to be something special. They stress the importance of the making it all feel like an extension of the original, and making the shots looks like something grounded in reality even while pushing the special effects, something that (in my opinion) is not pushed enough nowadays.

And here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
