judge-dredd-mega-city-oneWhile a sequel to ‘Dredd‘ is likely never going to happen, a new live-action television series is hoping to fill that void with ‘Judge Dredd: Mega City One.’ IM Global and UK game developer Rebellion have gone in to create this so I would suspect a digital game tie-in to be soon announced as well. Rebellion was involved with the 2012 ‘Dredd’ film though I suspect that won’t be the only reason that they’re involved.

There isn’t much known about who will be behind the film but IM Global Television president Mark Stern (‘Battlestar Galactica’,’Helix’,’Defiance’) and IM Global Television CEO Stuart Ford, as well as the owners of Rebellion, Chris and Jason Kingsley are on board as executive producers.

At this time we don’t know who will end up being the showrunner, writers, or directors for the series.

According to Stern:

“This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age. Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television.”

The Kingsley’s added in their two cents:

“We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen. Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public.”

The show will take place in the future on the East Coast of the United States in a megalopolis. We’ll be following a team of Judges who are tasked with being “judge, jury, and executioner” to deal with the rampant rise of crime which has taken over their city. Dredd, the Judge which most cinematic fans are familiar with, was created in 1977 and has had a long history in comics and been the leading character in two feature films. He will likely be the star on this show as well though it looks to be a variety of Judges will appear from the comics.

Are you looking forward to ‘Judge Dredd: Mega City One’? With the previous ties to Syfy through IM Global Television will that be the network this lands on or do you think we’ll see it somewhere else? Share your thoughts below!
