troll-hunter

If you haven’t seen the 2011 Norwegian horror epic of ‘Troll Hunter’ by Andre Øvredal than you should really make a point in checking it out as according to the director an Americanized remake is no longer in the cards. While Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures had quickly worked on getting the rights to the film and actually made an announcement in 2013 that made me interested in checking it out as Neil Marshall (‘The Descent’,’Dog Soldiers’) had become attached to direct, it seems like that is no longer the case.

With Øvredal having ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ coming out on December 20th in select theaters and to VOD, he delivered the news stateing that new ‘Troll Hunter’ “is not going anymore. We [Øvredal and the Norwegian producers] got the rights back, and I don’t think they will be pursuing another remake.”

While it is no longer happening, we really don’t have any details on why that is. With Marshall attached it seemed like a no-brainer and the unfortunately, original director doesn’t know either:

“I don’t know exactly. I was very happy with what I read; I never communicated with anybody about it, but I read on-line that Neil Marshall was attached to direct it, and I was like, ‘OK, I can get behind that,’ and then suddenly it didn’t happen. I believe that just after signing up for Troll Hunter, Neil got too busy with Game of Thrones, and that’s what stopped it; that seems to be the case, anyway, and then it just kind of died.”

While it wouldn’t surprise anyone to hear that ‘Game of Thrones’ caused the death of someonething, it is a shame that that would be why this ended up calling it quits. Of course, no one could blame someone for wanting to work on HBO’s juggernaut of a television show.

Are you sad to see that ‘Troll Hunter’ won’t be getting a much wider US release in a new version or are you sick of reboots and feel that people should just check out the original? Share your thoughts below!
