We won’t have a chance to see the sixth season of Ryan Murphy‘s ‘American Horror Story‘ until this September and now it sounds like we won’t be getting any solid hints about it until it premieres either. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf shared some details about what his marketing team was up to at this week’s Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour panel for the network and it seems as if we’re all going to be left in the dark.
According to Landgraf, his marketing team, “went out and created many more trailers than you’ve actually seen for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story, in different genres, different places. One of them is accurate, and the others are all misdirects.”
So while we’ve already seen some promotional material and are surely about to see some more, the majority of it will just be there to tease us as to what the next chapter of this horror anthology series won’t actually be about.
Why is the show doing it this season? Landgraf explains that “there is a theme and a setting and a place and time but we’re not going to reveal it because we think it will be fun for the audience to have the surprise this year.”
Sadly, we’ve got a month until we can actually see what will be going on this season. With six under their belt do we have to worry about the show coming to an end at any point soon?
“All good things must come to an end, but, so far, as long as Ryan keeps coming up inventive and original and new ideas… [we] can keep going. By definition, it has a beginning, middle and end each season. It’s only the limits of your stories and your imagination that ends the show. So only time will tell.”
As long as Murphy keeps delivering enough creative horror and content that keeps ratings up, I suspect that we’ll be having a new ‘American Horror Story’ each year for quite some time to come.
