Oliver Queen won’t be the only crime fighter keeping the streets of Central City safe in the upcoming fifth season of ‘Arrow‘ as the series has just cast Josh Segarra (‘Chicago P.D.’,’Trainwreck’) to play Adrian Chase. For those unfamiliar with Chase, you may recognize him by the name of Vigilante who in some ways is DC’s version of The Punisher. We knew that Stephen Amell had previously teased that the new villain wouldn’t have any superpowers and would be perfect with how the events from the fourth season played out. This was one character that a few had already guessed at from the teases and is truly the perfect fit for bringing Arrow back to a more grounded street level superhero.

Adrian Chase will first be introduced as an “ally” of Mayor Oliver Queen who wants to help put Central City’s legal system back in order and stamp out corruption. Of course, in the comics we saw Chase go from a successful New York District Attorney to the violent Vigilante. He also follows the trends of Punisher as he loses his wife and children to a crime lord and from there is when he starts using lethal force to bring down those who are terrorizing his city.

However, when one life is taken every other vigilante decides he needs to be taken down for going too far. With previous descriptions of the villain having him billed as “irrepressibly charming” and would “just as easily shake your hand as your best friend or break your neck as your worst enemy,” it seems like we could be in for one of Arrow’s most complex villains to date. With the series lagging behind ‘The Flash,’ this could be just what it needs to get back on track for fans tuning in every week.

Are you looking forward to the Vigilante debuting on ‘Arrow’ or does this feel like the series is trying to take a page out of Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’? Share your thoughts below!

‘Arrow’ will return to The CW on May 25th, 2016.
