There has been a lot of internet speculation and rumor about the role Michael Shannon will be playing in Zack Synder’s upcoming ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ especially after he appeared in the most recent trailer inside a body-bag. As fans will remember, Shannon’s General Zod was killed by Superman at the end of ‘Man of Steel,’ but strangely enough it seems Shannon has been called back for the sequel, and not just to appear as a corpse. According to ‘Variety‘ who interviewed Shannon recently, he is not only alive in the film, but also has a new costume, and what appears to be flippers on his hands. In this story, he had a scene coming up and he had excused himself to go to a porta-potty, when his new costume’s hands almost got him trapped forever:

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands…So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the [frick] is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’”

When asked what he thought about his appearance inside a body-bag during the most recent trailer for the film, Shannon said the following:

“Well, I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer, I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.”

Toaster of course makes more sense, given the heat vision, but it definitely goes against fan speculation that Lex Luther takes Zod’s body and turns him into Doomsday, who fans know as one of Superman’s deadliest enemies. It would certainly make sense considering all the action seen in the trailer and the editing designed so we could not always see who are heroes were fighting, especially a shot where Batman dodges heat vision in his normal costume, which is strange because we know he suited up in the extreme bat-armor for his fight with Superman, so he either changed mid-fight, or else Batman is face down another foe with heat vision in a different battle.

What are your thoughts on the Shannon rumors? Is it too early to bring in Doomsday, especially considering the comics used him to bring about the ‘Death of Superman’ storyline? Share your opinions below!
