Since the first teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated adventure into a galaxy far, far away titled ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was released last week, fans have been endlessly dissecting every moment of the 88-second video. In our own analysis, we brought up the question of whether ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ star Benedict Cumberbatch was the one providing the voiceover, but actually suggested a few other alternatives. Well, it turns out that one of our guesses was correct as Andy Serkis has been revealed to be the voice in question. Don’t believe us? Hear it straight from the horse’s mouth as the actor confirms the report in an interview with Absolute Radio at the premiere of ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’:
However, now that we know that the voice in the trailer does actually belong to Serkis, a new rumor has emerged regarding the motion capture superstar and his role in the latest ‘Star Wars’ film. According to Jedi News, in addition to joining a “group of unbelievably athletic and acrobatic motion capture characters” that also include Pip Anderson and Crystal Clarke, the star of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ is said to also take on a “pivotal role in the first act story arc that entwines with Daisy Ridley‘s backstory” that “may have more to it than it seems in the first instance.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Serkis has taken a role both in front of and behind the camera. As seen in the first trailer for ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, the actor appears in an undisclosed role that is rumored to be Ulysses Klaw, however, he has also had a hand in assisting with Ultron and Hulk as a motion capture consultant. If he can do that for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then who’s to say that he isn’t doing the exact same thing for ‘Star Wars’? Of course, it’s best to label this as a rumor for now, but feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ starring John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker premieres on December 18, 2015.
