Syfy attempted to take a bite out of Discovery’s popular ‘Shark Week’ by announcing its ‘Sharknado Week‘ which would feature the premiers of ‘Sharknado 2: The Next One’ and a new Roger Corman feature ‘Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda’.  But fake sharks might not be able to measure up to the real thing.  Discovery has released a trailer that pokes fun at Syfy’s signature hit movie.  Just as live sharks ate people whole in the movie, Discovery’s sharks spew forth a baby seal and a live human.  No it’s not Ian Ziering, but still… clearly Discovery has a bone to pick with Syfy.

However, keep in mind that Discovery aired its own fictional documentary ‘Megalodon’ last year to some scorn.  Are the two networks encroaching on the same territory?

Considering that the two weeks do not coincide, there’s really no reason that viewers can’t indulge in the cheese factor that comprises ‘Sharknado Week’ on Syfy and then enjoy the more factual ‘Shark Week’ on Discovery.  No need to make a choice, just enjoy both!

Will you be tuning into both weeks?
