I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Angelina Jolie was born to play Maleficent, the evil fairy from the classic fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’.  She has that regal, bad girl style with those sharp cheekbones, made even more so with prosthetics.  The movie is just a few weeks off and even though the final trailer has been revealed, there’s still more to entice you to enter this mystical realm, not the least of which should be the titular character.

Watch as Angelina/Maleficent majestically glides into the throne room of King Stefan, disrupting the christening of his infant daughter Aurora.  Maleficent has a longstanding grudge against the King (who the trailers hint was instrumental in stealing Maleficent’s wings) and when the King tells her she isn’t welcome, she pouts solemnly, before revealing a wicked smile.

Check out the clip for yourself:

“Awkward” indeed, although I don’t think for Maleficent.  Clearly by that radiant smile, this witch brought party favors that only she will appreciate.

She pauses a moment to acknowledge the three fairies hovering around Aurora.  In this incarnation, they are Knotgrass (Imelda Staunton, in pink), Flittle (Lesley Manville, in blue) and Thistlewit (Juno Temple, in green):

This varies from the original cartoon version, in which the good fairies were named Flora, Fauna and Merryweather.  The new names have a more “earthy” sound to them, perhaps hinting that all fairies are somehow empowered by nature.  (I’m not sure why they are small when Maleficent is human size, though.)

Just for your entertainment, here are a couple of vamp-a-licious GIFs of Jolie as Maleficent… I look forward to seeing what is done with these on Tumblr.

Let’s face it, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ ends next week (with a reunion show the next) and after that, it’s all superheroes and monster films.  If you need a dose of divaliciousness (not a word), this might be your only chance this summer.

Are you looking forward to this fairy tale-based film?
