‘The Game’ star Candice Patton is moving to Central City.  She’s just been cast as Iris West in The CW’s pilot ‘The Flash‘.  Barry Allen, the comic book character who eventually becomes The Flash debuted on the network’s hit action series ‘Arrow’ portrayed by Grant Gustin.  The Allen character was intended to test the waters for a “backdoor pilot” however reaction was so positive, the “backdoor pilot” was ditched in favor of a stand-alone with a bigger budget.

Gustin obviously is returning for the show and the cast has been steadily filling out, with Jesse L. Martin cast as Iris’ father, Rick Cosnett as Det. Eddie Thawn (Reverse-Flash) and Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow (Killer Frost).  Don’t forget, producers also intend to include Francisco Ramon, a character who, in the comics is the fledgling super hero Vibe.

Patton’s character, is described as “a grad student who is Barry’s quick-witted best friend and the daughter of Jesse L. Martin’s Detective West.”  William West serves as a mentor and father figure to Barry, with both men having grown up in the foster care system.  In Barry’s case, this was due to his mother being killed with his father framed for her murder, but due to the bizarre nature of the murder, Barry has developed a fascination with strange crimes.  It was this obsession that led him to Starling City in ‘Arrow’, where he bonded with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).

In the comics, Iris is the aunt of Wally West, who served as Kid Flash, Barry’s sidekick for years.  After Barry’s death, Wally took up his mantle and served as The Flash himself for years.  It’s unclear whether Wally will appear on the show, but considering that Grant Gustin is so youthful, I can’t see him serving as a mentor.  Not to mention Vibe’s possible role.

Candice Patton played Tori on ‘The Game’ and has also appeared on ‘Rizzoli & Isles’, ‘CSI: Miami’, ‘Harry’s Law’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.
