With principal photography wrapped on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, it seems that the movie’s stars suddenly have more time to talk about their roles. Recently, Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt have spoken openly about their involvement in the Phase Two film from James Gunn, and now two more of their costars were found talking about the project as well.
While speaking to SciFiNow magazine recently, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker opened up about various things regarding their upcoming movie. First, Pace, who will be playing the primary villain of the film, Ronan the Accuser, mentioned how different his experience was on the set of ‘Guardians’ from his work on Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, where he plays the Elvenking Thranduil:
“The characters couldn’t be more different! I remember walking on set [of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’], and I was like ‘Very un-elfy, right guys?’. [Ronan] is a real psychopathic beast. I’m having the best time playing it. I kept looking over at James Gunn when we were shooting, ‘Too much? Should I pull back?’ He’s like ‘No, more, go for it!’”
On the topic of Gunn, longtime collaborator and friend Rooker, who will be playing Yondu Udonta, discussed his delight with the director landing a job that he really enjoys:
“It’s felt like a James Gunn movie as soon as he called me about it! I went out and bagged a comic just to see what he was doing, and I was like ‘Oh my God, he’s doing this!’ I was very happy because he’s a big comic guy, even as a young child he really enjoyed reading them, so it was great to see him doing something that really got his creative energy going.”
As for why Rooker was brought on for the ride, the former star of ‘The Walking Dead’ shed some light on why he was picked for the part:
“He loves to torture me and make me look strange. Directors always love to tell actors what to do, and he loves telling me what to do, and that’s why he hired me!”
Both Lee Pace and Michael Rooker sound very enthusiastic to be a part of the only original film in Marvel Studios’ current phase of films. How do you think they’ll fare as Ronan the Accuser and Yondu respectively? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, and Michael Rooker blasts off on August 1st, 2014.
