In the pantheon of time travel movies, there are many gold standards in the genre. You have Terry Gilliam’s ‘Time Bandits’, then there are modern classics like ‘Looper’, and of course, there’s the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy. But none of them compare to ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’. The 1989 movie starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter featured two San Dimas slackers as they traveled through time to collect an ensemble of historical figures to populate their high school history presentation. Upon it’s release, the tale of Bill S. Preston, Esquire, and Ted “Theodore” Logan gained legions of fans and their films rose to the level of cult classics.

That’s why their first film was a perfect choice for this summer’s retro film festival The Awesome Fest in Philadelphia. In it’s second year, the 10-week long event consists of a number of free and cheap screenings of some of the best movies that the 80s have to offer. So naturally, Bill & Ted needed to be included.

But that’s not all! Winter came out to the City of Brotherly Love to screen the film in a double feature alongside his newest documentary, ‘Downloaded’, which tells the story of the rise and fall of the pioneering peer-to-peer file sharing service Napster. While in town, he took a few minutes to about his latest film and various other topics. But no conversation with this filmmaker would be complete without a little talk of the rumored third film in the Bill & Ted saga. To see what he had to say, you can go ahead and check out the video below:
