Way back in 2011, rumblings of a fourth ‘Transformers’ film from controversial filmmaker Michael Bay began to surface. Since then, there have been ups and downs with the project, including the news that the robots known as the Autobots and Decepticons would be getting a bit of a makeover in order to sell more toys. Now that ‘Transformers 4’ is actually shooting, some photos have recently surfaced to give us a look at which robots in disguise will be appearing in the film.
First, Bay shared the following quote about the start of production:
Principal photography on Transformers 4 has begun. As guests of the Navajo Nation, we took a convoy of brand new, re-envisioned and remodeled Autobots out for a spin down Highway 163 in Monument Valley near the border. Stay tuned…more to come!
Along with that message came a picture of the brand new, upgraded Optimus Prime, which you can see below courtesy of /Film:
Then, Yahoo! revealed two more Autobots without saying who exactly they were. One is a Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse and another is a C7 Corvette Stingray. You can see both of these cars below:
While none of this is confirmed, it’s possible that the Corvette could be Sideswipe, who we’ve seen in both ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ and ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ depicted as a Stingray, except this time around he has a new paintjob. As for the Bugatti, three Autobots have used the brand of car as a base in the past, so it’s possible that it could be Smokescreen, Jazz, or Ricochet. Then again, it could be someone completely different and new to the franchise.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the robot designs for these heroes yet, and to be quite honest, that’s the coolest part about Transformers for me. I’m not so much interested in what they are before they turn into giant robots, but I’m probably in the minority in that aspect.
What about you? Are you interested in the pre-robot forms of these Transformers? Do you have any guesses on who these two unknown Autobots are? And for you car fans out there, are there any new models or concepts out there that you hope to see in Michael Bay’s latest? Let us know in the comments.
‘Transformers 4’ starring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, TJ Miller, and Sophia Miles is scheduled for release on June 27, 2014.
