No one in comic books stays dead except for a select few characters that really shape a hero, and most of those characters are from Spider-Man’s corner of the comic shop. However, according to a recent report, director Marc Webb may be playing with fire as a familiar face may be returning for his sequel to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ when absolutely no one was expecting him to do so.

According to /Film, Martin Sheen has revealed that he’ll be returning to set for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ alongside co-stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as well as new additions Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, and Dane DeHaan. The veteran actor who played Ben Parker, Peter’s uncle who famously bestowed him the phrase (or the idea in the case of Webb’s film), “With great power comes great responsibility,” revealed on an Irish talk show that he’s been summoned to reprise his role. He said:

“They’ve called me back, I don’t know what the part is gonna be, but I’m going to be ‘Uncle Ben’ once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February.”

This shouldn’t be a spoiler alert because everyone reading this site should know this already, but Uncle Ben dies and that’s what pushes Peter Parker to become Spider-Man. Why on Earth would he be in the second film?

Actually, I know exactly why and I was just being a jerk and riling you up. Most probably, Sheen will step back into the role for flashbacks, probably at a time when Spidey needs to be reminded why he’s doing what he’s doing. Basically, I’m not too worried about it. Marc Webb and everyone else involved have expressed in the past that they’re fans of the comic icon gifted to us by Stan Lee, so I doubt they’d do anything like reviving Uncle Ben to tarnish the legacy of the character on film. ‘Spider-Man 3’ did enough of that already.

While Martin Sheen has been tapped to return, there’s no official word on a return for Sally Field, who played Aunt May, however, I don’t see why she wouldn’t come back. That announcement will probably come soon.
