While the majority of the major roles for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ seemed to have been cast, Lionsgate was still be able to pull off a surprise casting announcement recently when they publicized on ‘The Hunger Games’ official Facebook page that Jeffrey Wright has been signed on to play the role of Beetee.

Beetee, for those who haven’t yet read the second book, was considered an underdog during his Hunger Game run. Luckily for Beetee, his expertise in electricity and wiring enabled him to win his Game by rigging an electronic trap that killed off the other Tributes. This earned him the nickname “Volts.”  He is paired with Wiress (Amanda Plummer) for the Quarter Quell and together they were the team “Nuts and Volts.”

Back in July it was reported that Tony Shalhoub was the frontrunner for the role but it looks like Wright won out and now has the privilege of representing District 3 in the Quell Games.

Wright has starred in several high profile films such as ‘Casino Royale,’ ‘W,’ ‘The Ides of March,’ and ‘Extremely Close and Dangerous.’ To fans of sci-fi, he played Dr. Rutledge in ‘Source Code’ and Dr. Galeano in ‘The Invasion.’ In 1994, he won a Tony Award for his work in the play ‘Angels in America’ and earned a Golden Globe and Emmy when he reprised the role in 2003 for the HBO adaptation.

He will be joining the likes of Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), Sam Claflin (Finnick), Lynn Cohen (Mags), Meta Golding (Enobaria), Bruno Gunn (Brutus), Alan Ritchson (Gloss), Jenna Malone (Johanna), E. Roger Mitchell (Chaff) and Maria Howell (Seeder) as Tributes for the 75th Hunger Games.

A full cast list can be found on the movie’s Facebook page and while there’s still a few Tributes that need to be filled (namely the ones from Districts 5-10). What is intriguing is at the bottom of the cast page is a silhouette of a female with no name nor District associated with it. Who is this mystery person? Some think it’s for the role of Annie Cresta, Finnick’s love of his life, but she really doesn’t appear until the third book. Other have speculated it could be Bonnie, someone on the run who Katniss encounters in the woods.

So who do you think this mysterious girl is? Will it be someone from the novel or a new character just for the film? And what do you think of Wright as Beetee? For those who have read the books, let us know your theories in the comments below!
