Casting news for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ seems to be flying out faster than we can report them! On the heels of the announcement that Meta Golding has joined the cast comes news that Bruno Gunn will now play her male Tribune counterpart, Brutus, in the upcoming sequel.

Gunn seems to have been born into this role. Just like Cato from the first ‘The Hunger Games’ film was a tough and practiced opponent, Brutus will also be a foe to watch out for in the arena. And with the name like Bruno Gunn, who else to play a character named Brutus that is described as strong, intense and brutal? Gunn seems perfect for the part! Like Patrick St. Esprit, his resume consists of a lot of roles portraying military and law enforcement characters.

Gunn (who is also credited as Bruno Gioiello) has appeared in the films ‘Bad Teacher’ and ‘Herbie Fully Loaded’ and has done guest appearances on ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘NCIS: Los Angeles,’ and ‘Prison Break.’

SPOILERS!

For the uninitiated, Brutus volunteers to step back into the ring for the Quarter Quell, a special Hunger Games event pitting former victors against each other. Together, he and Enobaria form the District 2 team.

He gets along with Peeta and after witnessing Katniss’ archery skills, offers to form an alliance with her. Brutus is an expert with the spear and is able to think quickly on his feet. He’s one of the more lethal competitors in the sequel and factors heavily in the sequel’s story.

END SPOILERS

It was originally thought that Kevin Nash would be playing this part and with the announcement that Gunn has now landed it, speculations about Nash’s role are now forming.

As much as we appreciate Lionsgate in releasing these casting news, the one news they are still holding out on is who will play the pivotal role of Finnick Odair? With filming to begin in a few weeks, the announcement should hopefully emerge sometime soon.

So what do you think of Gunn as Brutus? Do you think he’s a better choice than Nash and who could Nash now be possibly playing? Sound off in the comments below!
