About two weeks ago, Jim Carrey was in talks to join director Jeff Wadlow’s ‘Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall’ as The Colonel, who is probably the character of Colonel Stars, an ex-mafia lackey turned vigilante and the leader of the superhero team Justice Forever, which Kick-Ass is a part of. Today, news outlets, including Deadline, who doesn’t really report on anything unless it is actually so, have confirmed that Carrey is indeed joining the cast in the supporting role.
According to the reports, Wadlow tweeted the following message:
6 days till we start shooting… and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f’n then!
He doesn’t explicitly name the legendary actor as having landed the role, but he did use the catchphrase that Carrey made famous in his ‘Ace Ventura’ movies. It’s not exactly an official press release, or a comment from the actor himself, so there’s a chance that it might not happen, but I want to stay optimistic because this is something that I’d really like to see.
By taking part in the follow up to Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s popular comic book, this marks the funny man’s return to comic book movies as he has previously brought The Mask and The Riddler to life in the 1994 film of the same name and ‘Batman Forever’, respectively.
‘Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall’ starring Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage is scheduled to start filming on September 10th, but no release date has been set yet.
