After starring in ‘Prometheus’ for Ridley Scott, it looks like Charlize Theron is sticking with the science fiction genre as she is currently attached to the latest project from ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ director Rupert Wyatt called ‘Agent 13’.
Variety (via Blastr) reports that writer T.S. Nowlin is penning the script of this futuristic spy thriller. Nowlin is highly sought after around town these days because of his Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday gunslinger script ‘Wild Guns’ at Warner Bros, on top of his two other historical projects, ‘Columbus’ and ‘Marco Polo’. To me, ‘Agent 13’ is a pretty big departure from his current projects, but maybe he’s one of those multifaceted writers who can write anything, a quality that I as a writer definitely envy.
Aside from the involvement of the heavy-hitting team of Theron, Wyatt, and Nowlin, very little is known about ‘Agent 13’ because the details of the script are being kept under wraps. Regardless, huge studios such as WB, Sony, Universal, and 20th Century Fox showed interest in the film, but it was just reported that ultimately Univeral won the bidding war and is acquiring the film.
Considering that ‘Agent 13’ is a piece of original science fiction and not a sequel, prequel, or remake, it’ll probably appear on the radar of more than just the huge Hollywood studios. It’s been a while since we, the audience, have gotten brand new, high quality sci-fi that wasn’t based on existing source material.
What do you think about ‘Agent 13’? Are you excited for some original sci-fi featuring these three major players or is it destined for the B, C, or D-list?
