Superheroes and comic books are the lifeblood of current popular culture, and our friends at Diamond Select Toys have been in the game of bringing fans of superheroes and comics some of the best collectibles for two decades now! This year at New York Toy Fair 2019 Diamond Select Toys were showing off a surplus of awesome new products from both of the big two comic companies, Marvel and DC Comics!
Starting right off with their tried and true Marvel products, with new offerings from most of Diamond Select Toy’s major lines like Minimates, Marvel Gallery, Marvel Premiere Collection, and Marvel Select! Thankfully for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Diamond Select Toys is planning on bringing the titular heroine of the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ to almost all of those lines. There will be a new Minimates 4-pack with Captain Marvel, Att-Lass, Minn-Erva, and Skrull Nero included exclusively at comic shops, plus a new Marvel Gallery ‘Captain Marvel’ PVC figure! Arguably their best showing for the character though is their new Marvel Select Captain Marvel figure, which features the character in her green and black costume from the new film and includes a figure display stand a some marvelous (pun fully intended) blast power effects!
Since we’re already talking about awesome new Marvel Select figures, the other big reveal for the line at Toy Fair 2019 was a comic styled figure of one of Spider-Man’s oldest foes, The Sandman! The new Marvel Select figure of Flint Marko comes jam packed with alternative parts to show the full extent of his sand powers, including an number of interchangeable hands and a sand-pillar lower body!
Moving right along to Diamond Select’s long running Marvel Minimates line, Diamond Select was showing off the all new Series 77 and Series 78! While Series 77 first premiered a few weeks back online, this is the first time they have been shown in person! The new wave consists of some of the most fan demanded ‘Spider-Man’ characters like a comic style Vulture, The Prowler, Molten man, Hydroman, Mysterio, Ultimate Spider-Man, Kraven The Hunter, and Black Costume Spider-Man! If you collect all four figure 2-packs you can build your very own Spider-Slayer Minimate!
For Series 78 Diamond Select Toys is diving deep into the 1990’s for an ‘X-Force’ themed wave of Minimates! The new series includes Havok, Polaris, Multiple Man, Wolfsbane, Archangel, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Beast! Whats even better, if you collect them all you can build an exclusive Strong Guy Minimate!
For the Marvel Gallery line, DST had some great pieces on display like the Deluxe Hulkbuster, Unmasked Iron Man MK50, Okoye and Ebony Maw, plus some amazing new pieces that have never been seen before like Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, The Goblin Queen, and a classic styled Beast from ‘X-Men’! We’ve also got some new pieces for the Marvel Premiere Collection, including Carnage, Iceman, and The Green Goblin!
For fans of DC Comics, Diamond Select Toys also had plenty of great new items in the pipeline for Toy Fair! The biggest reveals are all in their DC Gallery line of PVC statues which with lots of new characters coming to the line in a big way! New pieces coming to the line include comic styled versions of The Atom, The Flash, Darkseid, Deathstroke, ‘The Killing Joke’ Joker, and a Gallery DLX PVC piece featuring Batman and Robin from Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’! They are also bringing several of the leads from last year’s ‘Dark Knights Metal’ comic event to the line with Dawnbreaker, The Drowned, and Red Death! There will also be some pieces based on live action interpretations of some of your favorite characters like ‘Suicide Squad’ Harley Quinn, a second version of Wonder Woman from ‘Justice League’, several figures from Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy of films, and Batwoman from her self-titled live action series that is coming to The CW later this year!
The long-running ‘DC Universe Animated’ line of minibusts will be continuing with The Mad Hatter from ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and Deathstroke as seen in ‘Beware The Batman’! Deathstroke is the first character we have seen from ‘Beware The Batman’, so it’s exciting to see that Diamond Select Toys has the license to this short-lived newer series. Hopefully, these new pieces continue to do well and this line will continue for the foreseeable future.
Finally we have a number of new 4″ stylized vinyl figures in the DC Comics Vinimates heading our way this year with comic themed figures like White Knight Batman, Batman Damned, and The Batman Who Laughs, plus figures from the classic 1989 ‘Batman’ film and it’s sequel ‘Batman Returns’, ‘Shazam’, and even Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy!
