Michael Morris Locke & Key

The first two episodes of ‘Locke & Key’ will be directed by Michael Morris, who will also be credited as an executive producer on the first episode.  Based on the IDW comic book by Joe Hill, ‘Locke & Key’ was originally developed for Hulu, before finding a home at Netflix.  Morris previously served as executive producer and director for Netflix’s hit drama series ’13 Reasons Why’ and ‘Bloodline’.  He got his start directing and producing ‘Brothers and Sisters’, and went on to helm episodes of ‘In Plain Sight’, ‘Smash’, ‘The Slap’, ‘House of Cards’, ‘Halt and Catch Fire’, ‘Preacher’ and, most recently ‘Better Call Saul’.  He also serves as executive producer of the game show ’25 Words or Less’.

Developed by Carlton Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite, and Meredith Averill, ‘Locke & Key’ stars Darby Stanchfield as Nina Locke, the widow of Rendell Locke (Bill Heck), who, after Rendell’s violent death, moves her three children Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) from California to Massachusetts, into Rendell’s familial home, Key House, which turns out to have a sinister supernatural past.  The kids discover a set of magical keys which grant them magical abilities but also makes them the target of demonic forces.

The series also stars Kevin Alves, Thomas Mitchell Barnet, Asha Bromfield, Laysla de OliveiraGriffin GluckPetrice Jones, Sherri Saum, Kolton Stewart, and Steven Williams.  del Olivera plays Dodge, a villainous demon that torments the Lockes.  Barnet plays Sam Lesser, a lonely outsider who forms a bond with Rendell and becomes an easy pawn for Dodge.

Alves plays the outgoing “life of the party” Javi, a new friend of Tyler’s.  Martin plays popular student Brinker Martin who gets drawn into the mysticism of the Lockes and Key House.  Bromfield plays Zadie Wells, a character that doesn’t originate in the comics, but is described as a “horror nerd.”  The same label is applied to Jones’ Scot Kavanaugh, who becomes fixated on Kinsey after her arrival.  Gluck’s character, Gabe, is also listed as a friend of Kinsey’s.

Meanwhile, Saum and Williams play educators at the Locke kids’ new school, the Matheson Academy.  Saum plays Ellie Whedon, who has a past connection to Rendell and Key House.  Williams plays Joe Ridgeway, a kindly older teacher who befriends the Lockes.
