X-Men

Bob Iger has officially confirmed that when Disney takes over Fox’s assets that the X-Men and any other Marvel Properties will be under Kevin Feige‘s direct control. This doesn’t mean that we’ll be seeing all of the properties immediately being swept into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but likely just about anything not directly related to ‘Deadpool’ is going to be closed out and rebooted into MCU continuity. There is always the chance that an alternate timeline story arc could evolve and bring some of the mutants directly into the mix but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that happening.

Here is what Iger had to say:

“I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.”

‘Deadpool’ is, of course, a concern for fans and he was even asked if Deadpool could become an Avenger. Iger wasn’t going to confirm or deny anything here but did state that “Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them. But who knows?”

In the comics, we have seen the Merc with the Mouth become one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for a while so going off the source material, it wouldn’t be entirely out of character. Of course, we have no way to tell how mutants will suddenly be included in the MCU without the rich and storied past being involved as well. It seems that S.H.I.E.L.D. would either know about them already or that at least one powered character such as Magneto would have gone on a rampage and brought mutant-kind out of the shadows. While not an impossible problem for Feige’s team going forward it is one which will have difficulties to pull off.

Are you happy to hear that Kevin Feige will be in charge of the X-Men and Fantastic Four when they show up at Marvel Studios? How do you think Marvel’s First Family and mutant-kind could be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
