Marvel-Studios-Eternals

A new rumor on the block has an upcoming Marvel Studios film reading into the cosmic and tackling the race known as ‘The Eternals’. If you’re unfamiliar with the characters that puts you in the same boat as the majority of the people were prior to the announcement of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ some years back.

My first reaction to this news was that this was going to be a massive misfire on Marvel’s part. I had to pause for a moment and take a deep breath. That was also my first reaction to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ being announced until we saw the first trailer for the film. That trailer completely changed my perception of what Marvel Studios could do with their properties, so I’m entirely withholding judgment here.

If we’ve learned anything at this point is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe can put a positive spin on all of their stories.

The rumor came from a source who we’re told has been extremely reliable in the past and with Jack Kirby’s work hitting all of the high points on the big screen these days with the success of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, ‘Black Panther‘, and DC giving us a ‘New Gods‘ film, it only makes sense that ‘The Eternals’ would get a cinematic treatment as well.

‘The Eternals’ themselves weren’t initially a cosmic race but a highly powered offshoot of humanity. Think mutants or even ‘The Inhumans’ in some aspects. They had been created by The Celestials to be the defenders of our planet against a race known as The Deviants. The Celestials were also both, directly and indirectly, responsible for both the Inhuman and mutant races and had been hinted at on screen so this could be another stepping stone to a more extensive story arc.

I also feel that this could be a perfect way for James Gunn to help shape the future of the cosmic side of Marvel while they wait for the rights to come in from all of Fox’s cosmic assets.

Are you thrilled to hear that The Eternals could soon be gracing the big screen from Marvel Studios? Will this be Kevin Feige’s ideal project since he wasn’t able to bring us his take on The Inhumans? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
