Once again James Gunn has shared fun details about a scene found in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.‘ In this one, he was asked by a fan what was up with that repair tool that Rocket Raccoon was using to repair the Milano in the movie. What could be taken as a joke was dissected pretty well and also shattered the hopes of fans who were hoping that it could recreate an iconic scene from the comics. The scene we were hoping for was the one where Tony Stark is working with Rockett to fix his Iron Man armor after it was destroyed.
The initial question came up and was answered right here:
@JamesGunn Hello! Did Rocket create the repair tool he uses on the Milano or was it a standard tool? Thanks. pic.twitter.com/K2nySGDp9A

He didn’t invent it, but it’s expensive. It keeps the entire ship in its memory and can recreate all of it or just the damaged parts, similar to an incredibly sophisticated 3D printer. It takes expertise, time, and patience to employ. https://t.co/5dNO2m7CgG

Now, of course, the one thing we all know is that when Rocket comes up with something expensive that he probably didn’t outright buy it. No need to wonder here as this is confirmed by Gunn himself!
Yes, he did steal it.

While it was theft, one deft fan was quick to point out Rocket’s logic for the first film which could be applied here:
Well technically, it’s not stealing if he wanted it more than the other person.

So very true. However, this gave a lot of us hope that a scene could be created from the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ comic when Tony Stark was hanging out in space with them. Gunn shot the theory that the scene inspired this device pretty quickly:
No.

As for what actually occurred in the comics which fans were hoping for? Rocket used a Sladon to fix Tony’s armor and gave us a piece of comic history:
It sounds like this is one we shouldn’t be holding our breaths to see recreated. Not that there looks to be much time for it to happen in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ with everything else which has been jampacked into it.
