Things aren’t looking good for anything coming out of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ universe that doesn’t have ‘Deadpool’ in the title. Anyone who was hoping to see ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘ this year after ‘New Mutants‘ was pushed back to 2019 is out of luck as now both movies have release dates for next year. Not only that, but ‘New Mutants’ was pushed back even further!
At this point, Disney could potentially even own them before the movies are released! Well, ‘New Mutants’ at least.
In the case of ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ the release date was pushed back from November 2nd, 2018, to February 14th, 2019. This was only a week before ‘New Mutants’ was set to be released after it had originally been pushed back from April of 2018. Now, ‘New Mutants’ will instead be released on August 19th, 2019!
Not good news for fans of mutantkind.
As to why the movies are being delayed? For ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ it doesn’t seem to be too big of a concern. Many blockbusters these days have reshoots after screenings for additional photography. That seems to be the case here and the significant delay seems to be only because there are so many actors involved that they have to coordinate schedules around to get them back on set. Nothing to worry about here.
As to ‘New Mutants’ we know that some reshoots were being put in place to make the film scarier and add a new character. The new rumor now is that at least 50% of the movie is said to be reshot and that they’ll be adding one or two new characters. It wasn’t shared if that number is on top of the previously announced new character but the amount of the movie being redone is pretty high. Director Josh Boone seems to be having creative differences with Fox over this so things aren’t looking too hot here. It isn’t clear what this will mean for the final cut of the movie.
